Keeping the Internet running when fuel runs low The energy crisis gripping the world has especially tested the resilience of economies throughout the Asia Pacific region. Governments everywhere, including Taiwan, have rushed to secure supply to ensure continuity and minimise impacts on industry and consumers. It has highlighted the dependency on energy to power everyday life. The Internet too relies on energy. But what other "fuel" does the Internet depend on to thrive? This talk explores how we can navigate the challenges facing the Internet and ways to ensure our communities stay connected when it matters most.

Director - Strategy and Deputy Director General, APNIC Tony Smith is the Director – Strategy and Deputy Director General of APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry for the Asia Pacific. In his current role, Tony is responsible for leading APNIC's Member & Registry Services and Development areas, and guides strategic planning and implementation across the organisation. Prior to this, he was responsible for overseeing all corporate operations underpinning APNIC, and also led the organization's communications function for several years. Before joining APNIC, Tony worked in the domain name industry with Melbourne IT, and has been in the Internet and technology industry for more than 27 years, including 10 years providing strategic communications consultancy in Europe and Asia Pacific to companies such as Cisco, Nokia, Microsoft, Intel and NTT.
